Botanical Gardens in Bangkok

Bangkok's best gardens are recent. Benjakitti Forest Park opened in 2022 on the site of an old tobacco monopoly, and its constructed wetland, with boardwalks zigzagging over reed beds and Sukhumvit's towers reflected in the water, did more for the city's green reputation than anything in decades. The older parks are quieter about it: Queen Sirikit Park keeps a serious palm and plumeria collection beside Chatuchak, and Suan Luang Rama IX, out east, spreads botanical grounds and themed pavilions across a genuinely large site. Early morning is the only sensible time for any of them.
In the city
Benjakitti connects to Lumphini Park by an elevated green bridge, making a walkable loop of roughly five kilometres between MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and Si Lom. Do it at sunrise and you will share it with runners, badminton players and outdoor aerobics classes. Queen Sirikit Park, at MRT Kamphaeng Phet, is the closest thing Bangkok has to a botanic garden proper, with themed beds, a palm collection and the small Bangkok Butterfly Garden and Insectarium at its northern edge. Lumphini itself is more park than garden, though the water monitors sunning themselves beside the lake justify the walk.
Bang Krachao
The green lung sits inside a hook of the Chao Phraya opposite Klong Toei, technically in Samut Prakan but functionally Bangkok's back garden. Cross by longtail boat from Klong Toei pier for a few baht, rent a bicycle at the landing, and ride the raised concrete paths through nipa palm and banana plots. Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Garden is the formal centrepiece, with a lake, a birdwatching tower and shaded lawns, and the Bang Nam Phueng floating market runs nearby at weekends. Go early, since the paths are narrow, unshaded in patches and much less fun after ten.
